Case Study: Automotive Manufacturer’s cafeteria renovation
Project: Complete cafeteria renovation and equipment improvements
The client
S&G served one of the world’s leading auto makers at their Ohio manufacturing plant.
The challenge
The client had contracted with another provider to renovate their cafeteria at their Ohio facility. But that provider left this client disappointed with project delays and the overall lack of quality and design of the cafeteria. So they turned to S&G and tasked us with not only revamping and modernizing the cafeteria, but also with vastly improving the quality of their equipment designs. To make matters more interesting, The client also needed full delivery and installation of all equipment S&G manufactured but also purchased for them. And everything had to coincide with a plant shut down over July 4th — making timing a critical priority of this $1 million project.
The S&G solution
S&G began with the original drawings. Tapping into the experience and skill of our design and engineering team, we quickly identified and provided solutions to existing problems. We revised the floor layout to improve the flow and function of the client’s cafeteria operations. We improved the overall quality and durability of the equipment that we made by creating a channeling system for the electrical components and using a heavier grade of stainless steel. And finally, S&G not only improved the overall quality of the cafeteria’s form and function, we saved this client $21,000 on the cost of the equipment.
To streamline process and address the client’s fear of time delays, S&G invited the client and their General Contractor to our facility once a week to attend production meetings and tour the shop floor to see their job in progress. This solution maximized time and communications, allowing S&G to deliver the project on time. Their cafeteria opened for business on schedule.
The result
The client was extremely satisfied with our comprehensive ability to deliver design, fabrication, purchasing, delivery, and installation. Being able to visit one location and see all of the metal, wood, solid surface countertops, plus the large appliance buyouts gave the client peace of mind that their job was going to be successful.
