Case Study: Fun City

Project. Comprehensive design and delivery of stainless and millwork equipment for an entire entertainment complex

The client
Fun City is Iowa's premiere water park, entertainment complex and hotel, featuring an indoor and outdoor water park, restaurant, snack bar, (4) lounges, bowling center, indoor go kart track, laser tag arena, NASCAR simulator, giant arcade, full swing golf simulator, 3-D extreme theatre and conference center.

The challenge
During initial construction, Fun City needed to completely remodel an existing restaurant and 4 lounges. Essentially, the client had lots of space to serve a large customer base, and went looking for the right partner who could make the most of that space. The client knew they needed more than just someone who was just a fabricator or just a kitchen equipment dealer. They needed a truly skilled partner who could take a blank slate and assist from start to finish – providing solutions from initial planning and design, through providing custom manufactured items, providing kitchen equipment, providing furniture and installation.  Upon completion of the initial phase noted above the S&G project expanded throughout the remaining areas of the complex.

“We needed someone to whom we could say ‘Here’s what we have, now show us how to tweak it, redo it and make it work,” said Fun City’s Rob Higgins.

The S&G solution
S&G was recommended to Fun City by the world’s leader in bowling center development. Leveraging its design experience and comprehensive capabilities, S&G partnered with Fun City from step one and “was key to the whole thing,” said Higgins.

S&G began with layout and equipment design for all aspects of the remodel -- both the front of the house and back of the house. And then S&G’s craftsmen made those designs reality. S&G manufactured all of Fun City’s millwork throughout the entire complex, working primarily in elegant wood, but also incorporating metal, glass and other materials. S&G also provided the kitchen equipment and furniture, including installation, to outfit Fun City with everything needed to begin operations. In essence, Fun City was able to count on S&G as a single solution with the skills, experience, craftsmanship and service to take them from vision to operation.

The result
As Higgins said, “Joe Uraski and his team are fabulous. We were very happy with the people and the process. That’s what makes them attractive to us. They were always on top of it, always found solutions and were able to make any change that we requested.”

Fun City and S&G continue a strong relationship today. Fun City is designing a brand new casino, which will include expanded food service needs, hotel and conference space. And they have once again turned to S&G for all the needs.
